The Cotoneaster suecicus 'Coral Beauty' Half-Standard Tree is a distinctive form of a popular, low-growing evergreen shrub, modified to grow as a small, ornamental "tree.  It is valued for its brilliant fruit display that persists through winter.

Essential Characteristics

Standard Form: This plant has been specifically trained or grafted to create a clear, straight stem (trunk) topped with a rounded or weeping crown.

Foliage: Glossy, dark green, evergreen leaves that provide year-round color. In winter, the foliage often takes on attractive reddish-purple or bronze tones.

Crown Habit: The natural spreading and arching habit of the 'Coral Beauty' shrub is displayed as a weeping or cascading crown at the top of the standard stem. This makes it ideal as a focal point, particularly in containers or small gardens

Ornamental Interest: Excellent seasonal display:

Spring: Clusters of small, creamy white flowers 🤍 attract pollinators .

Fall/Winter: A heavy crop of showy coral-pink to bright red berries (pomes)  that persist through the cold months, providing winter interest and food for birds.

Ultimate Crown SpreadThe shrub form typically spreads to 1.5 - 2.5 metres (5 - 8 feet). The size of the crown on a half-standard will need light pruning to be kept manageable, but it can still achieve a significant spread

Growing Information

Sunlight: Prefers full sun , but tolerates partial shade. Best fruit production is achieved in full sun.

Soil: Highly adaptable to many soil types, including poor or rocky soil, but requires well-drained conditions (does not tolerate standing water).

Watering: Water regularly until established, after which it is moderately drought-tolerant and low-maintenance.

Maintenance: Minimal pruning is required; only trim occasionally in early spring or after flowering to maintain shape or remove dead wood. Generally pest and deer resistant .

Note: The berries are ornamental and should not be eaten by humans.
