The 'Jonagold' apple is a beloved, versatile fruit known for its exceptional flavor, a cross between 'Jonathan' (tart) and 'Golden Delicious' (sweet).

Essential Characteristics 🍎

• Fruit: Very large, round apple with a beautiful greenish-yellow skin heavily flushed or striped with bright orange-red. The flesh is crisp, juicy, and creamy-white, offering a perfect, balanced blend of honeyed sweetness and sprightly tartness 😋.

• Uses: Excellent dual-purpose apple—superb for fresh eating, baking pies 🥧, making sauces, and juicing/cider.

• Harvest: A mid-to-late season apple, typically ripening from mid-September to mid-October. Stores very well (up to several months refrigerated) ❄️.

• Pollination: Crucially, 'Jonagold' is a triploid variety, meaning its pollen is sterile. It cannot pollinate other apples and requires TWO other, different, non-triploid apple varieties with a similar bloom time nearby (e.g., Gala, Fuji, Honeycrisp) to set fruit. 🙅♂️
