The 'Elstar' is a popular Dutch apple tree cultivar, a cross between 'Golden Delicious' and 'Ingrid Marie' 🇳🇱.

Essential Characteristics:

Apple Flavour: Sweet and mildly tart, with a distinct honeyed aroma. Excellent for eating fresh or baking.

Fruit Appearance: Medium-sized, round-conic apples with a yellow-green base, heavily flushed and striped with bright red .

Texture: Crisp and very juicy flesh with a satisfying crunch.

Harvest Time: Mid to late season, typically ready for picking from mid-September to early October.

Tree Size: Medium-sized, depending on the rootstock. Can reach 4-8 meters (13-26 ft) in height/spread.

Blossoms: Attractive, light pink flowers in mid to late spring, which is a key trait for avoiding late spring frosts.

Yield & Pruning: Vigorous growth and a heavy, but often irregular, cropper. Requires regular pruning for best results.

Pollination: Diploid; it is a good pollinator for other apple varieties (Pollination Group 3/B) but needs a partner for the best crop.

Storage: Stores very well, often keeping crisp and flavorful until December or January.
